About This Service

Mission

The AliveRVA Warm Line serves as a vital peer recovery and resource warm line dedicated to supporting individuals struggling with addiction, their loved ones, and community members. This innovative service provides safe, confidential support through trained Peer Recovery Specialists who bring lived experience in substance use, behavioral health, trauma, and recovery.

What is a Warm Line?

A warm line represents peer support delivered through compassionate phone conversations. This non-intrusive, voluntary intervention operates without diagnosis requirements, appointment scheduling, or pressure to find immediate solutions. The service maintains complete anonymity while providing a judgment-free space for individuals to connect with others who truly understand their journey.

Peer Recovery Support Specialists

AliveRVA's team consists of dedicated peer recovery coaches who possess first-hand experience with substance use and have achieved sustainable long-term recovery. This unique qualification enables them to:

  • Listen with Understanding: Provide genuine empathy based on shared experiences
  • Offer Insight and Guidance: Share practical wisdom gained through their own recovery journey
  • Recognize Individual Needs: Understand what callers might need based on their unique circumstances
  • Combat Isolation: Connect with individuals who may feel alone in their struggles

- Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA)

Service Philosophy

The program embraces the principle that peer support creates unmatched connections in recovery. While supporting all pathways to recovery, AliveRVA recognizes that individuals who have walked similar paths can provide unique understanding, saying "I understand. I've been there too." Recovery coaches serve as vital components of long-term recovery plans, offering inspiration, motivation, accountability, and most importantly, tangible examples of successful recovery.
