The Green Olive Tree

Mission: The Green Olive Tree is a Christian thrift store rooted in Christian principles with a mission to serve the community while honoring their faith. The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a vision to be a ministry reaching out to the community and around the world where they can show the love of Jesus Christ to all, with compassion and dedication.

History: Founded in 1979 by several Christian women who recognized the need for a place in Crozet where families could share outgrown, usable clothing. The organization started at the Brownsville Market Fruit Stand and has had various homes since then, moving to their current location in 2011.

Services and Operations:

• Thrift Store: Sells gently used clothing, household items, toys, books, and more at affordable prices to the community
• Monthly Bag Sales: Special events where customers can fill a paper grocery bag for one low price
• Donation Acceptance: Receives donations of clothing and household items in good condition during store hours

Accepted Donations Include:

• Stain-free clothes in good repair (infant to adult, all sizes)
• Shoes, boots, purses, handbags, wallets
• Housewares (dishes, pots & pans, glassware, small appliances)
• Linens (tablecloths, placemats, sheets, blankets, comforters)
• Knick-knacks, baskets, picture frames
• Children's toys and books, school supplies
• Books, games, puzzles, movies, music CDs
• Craft and sewing supplies
• Fashion jewelry, watches
• Seasonal decorations

Items Not Accepted: Televisions, computers/monitors, large furniture, large appliances, car seats, helmets, any stuffed bedding.

Community Impact:

The organization shares the proceeds from their shop with organizations that make a positive impact in the community and around the world, including Advancing Native Missions, Bridge Ministry, Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, Equipping the Saints, Lifespring Pregnancy Center, four area Food Banks, Good News Jail Ministry, Hospice of the Piedmont, Love INC, PACEM, and Western Albemarle Rescue Squad.

Volunteer Opportunities:

The Green Olive Tree operates with an all-volunteer staff and welcomes volunteers age 15 and older to help at the shop. Volunteers can speak with shop managers or contact the organization to learn about opportunities to be part of this vital community resource.
