Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department

Mission & Region Served:
Established in 1961, Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department protects the North-East portion of Louisa County and the communities surrounding the private side of Lake Anna. From dense residential neighborhoods to remote rural properties, the all-volunteer team responds to a growing volume of calls driven by the surge of new residents at Lake Anna.

Core Emergency Services

• Fire Suppression: structural, vehicular, and wildland firefighting
• Rescue Operations: extraction and technical rescue at vehicle accidents
• Emergency Medical: non-transport, on-scene medical care provided by certified EMTs
• Public Safety Education: community risk-reduction and public awareness programs

Volunteer Opportunities

The department is actively recruiting community members for multiple roles:
- Firefighter: interior, exterior, and driver/operator positions
- EMS: Emergency Medical Technician and driver positions
- Junior Firefighter Program: safety and training opportunities for teens aged 16–18
- Administrative / Support: day-to-day administrative, maintenance, and fundraising assistance
- Associate / Auxiliary Unit: behind-the-scenes support without emergency response duties

Training & Commitment

All training and protective equipment are provided at no cost to volunteers. Schedules are flexible, accommodating working professionals, students, and retirees. The department fosters a family-friendly environment where members build life-saving skills, strong friendships, and a sense of civic pride.
