About This Service
Mission:
Project: Homes aims to increase the energy efficiency of homes for low-income individuals, older adults, and persons with disabilities in the greater Richmond area, including accessible service to Louisa County residents.
Services Provided
- Home Weatherization: Comprehensive inspection and repair of heating and cooling equipment, sealing of major air leaks, insulation of sidewalls (except within the city of Richmond), attic insulation and venting, duct and heating pipe insulation, and domestic water heater insulation.
- Energy Conservation: Implementation of measures to reduce energy-related bills and improve home safety and comfort for vulnerable populations.
Program Details
- Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP): Focuses on increasing energy efficiency and reducing utility costs for low-income households.
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): Provides additional energy efficiency support, prioritizing elderly, disabled, and families with small children.
- No Cost to Eligible Clients: All services are provided free of charge to those who qualify.
- Funding: Programs are funded by grants through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and Social Services.
Eligibility Requirements
- Income-Based: Eligibility is determined by income, with priority given to vulnerable households.
- Automatic Eligibility: Households receiving Social Security Disability, SSI, and/or TANF may qualify for some income exceptions.
- Service Area: While based in Richmond, the program serves the greater Richmond area and is accessible to residents of Louisa County and surrounding regions.
