The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond (TSCOR) is dedicated to providing free, round-trip transportation for seniors to medical appointments and grocery stores, supporting independent living and well-being for older adults.

Services Provided

  • Free, personalized transportation: Volunteer drivers offer door-to-door service, picking up clients from their homes, taking them to medical appointments or grocery stores, waiting for them, and returning them home.
  • Focus on seniors: Services are specifically for adults aged 60 and older.
  • Grocery and medical rides only: Transportation is limited to these essential needs.

Service Area & Eligibility

  • Eligibility:
  • Seniors aged 60 and older
  • Must reside in one of the following zip codes: 23059, 23060, 23219, 23220, 23221, 23225, 23226, 23227, 23228, 23229, 23230, 23233, 23235, 23236, 23238, or 23294
  • Must be able to walk independently (canes and walkers accommodated, but not wheelchairs or transport chairs)
  • Must live in their own home or apartment (residents of senior living communities may be accepted if the facility does not provide transportation)
  • Limitations:
  • No rides for appointments involving general anesthesia
  • Cannot serve individuals with serious cognitive impairment
  • Service is dependent on volunteer driver availability; clients are notified if a driver cannot be found

Application & Intake

  • New clients: Must call to confirm if new clients are being accepted and to request an application
  • Notice: Ample notice is provided if a ride cannot be arranged
