Overview:
Crater Health District is a regional public health system comprising seven local health departments in south central Virginia. The district serves a population of over 125,000 residents across the cities of Petersburg, Hopewell, and Emporia, as well as the counties of Greensville, Surry, Sussex, Dinwiddie, and Prince George. The district's mission is to build resilient communities and address the diverse health needs of its service area.
Services Provided:
- Emergency Preparedness & Response: Programs to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
- Environmental Health Inspections: Inspections and oversight to ensure safe environmental conditions.
- Women, Infants & Children (WIC): Nutritional support and education for eligible women, infants, and children.
- Community Programs & Services: A variety of health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
- Food Inspections: Ensuring food safety in public establishments.
- Men's Sexual Health: Services and education related to men's sexual health.
- Communicable Diseases: Prevention, education, and management of infectious diseases.
- Family Planning & Maternity Services: Reproductive health, family planning, and maternity care.
- Population Health: Initiatives to improve the overall health of the community.
- Immunizations: Vaccination services for children and adults.
- Vital Records: Access to birth, death, and other vital records.
Special Initiatives:
- Trauma & Resilience: Partnership with the Southside Trauma-Informed Community Network to address trauma and promote healing-centered approaches in public health.
