About This Service

Mission:
Better Days Farmville is dedicated to furnishing hope and homes for individuals and families who are starting over in life, regardless of the reason. The organization believes that everyone deserves a safe and functional home environment and works to provide essential household furnishings to those in need.

Service Area:

  • Assistance is not limited to Farmville or Prince Edward County residents. Better Days Farmville serves anyone starting over within the Piedmont Health District, which includes Louisa County and surrounding areas.

Services Provided:

  • Provision of gently used furniture and household items to families and individuals starting over from scratch.
  • Items available include: beds (with a special focus on children and senior citizens), gently used furniture, small and full-size appliances, sets of dishes, pots and pans, mirrors, lamps, curtains, sheets, blankets, hampers, trash cans, shower curtains, A/C units, small heaters, and select household decor.
  • The organization does not assist with bill payments, housing placement, or single-item requests (except for beds for children and seniors).

Eligibility & Process:

  • Assistance is available to anyone in the service area who is starting over and in need of a fully furnished home.
  • Requests for help must be made by an advocate (such as a case worker, teacher, church member, parole officer, or community member) on behalf of the individual or family in need. Self-referrals are not accepted.
  • The advocate must provide a list of household members, a brief description of the situation, county of residence, and a detailed list of requested items.
  • Recipients must arrange for at least two able-bodied people to pick up and load all items in Farmville. The organization can only meet each family once due to volunteer limitations.

Donation Guidelines:

  • Donations of gently used furniture and household items are accepted, but donors must deliver items to the Farmville location. No pick-up service is available.
  • Financial and time donations are also welcomed to support the mission.

Additional Information:

  • The organization is volunteer-run and typically furnishes 2-4 homes per week.
  • Better Days Farmville strives to fulfill 80-95% of each request, depending on available donations.
  • The organization does not accept clothing, single dishware items, items needing repair, or king-size bedding.

Summary:

Better Days Farmville provides comprehensive household furnishing support to individuals and families in the Piedmont Health District, including Louisa County, who are starting over and need to establish a functional home. The organization operates through a referral and pick-up system, ensuring that those most in need receive essential items for a fresh start.
