Rotary Club of Farmville

Mission and Overview:

The Rotary Club of Farmville is part of Rotary International, the world’s oldest service organization, composed of business and professional leaders dedicated to serving the community and promoting high ethical standards. Founded in 1938, the club has a long-standing tradition of community engagement and philanthropy in Farmville, Prince Edward County, and the surrounding region.

Services and Programs:

• Annual Community Service Grant: Provides up to $7,500 to not-for-profit organizations whose activities enhance the quality of life for local citizens. Grants are typically used as seed money for equipment or capital projects, but other impactful projects are considered.
• Support for Local Initiatives: Recent grants have supported the Prince Edward County High School Band and the Farmville Fire Department Auxiliary, funding equipment and educational tools that benefit youth and public safety.
• Youth Engagement: The club sponsors Rotaract (college-level) and Interact (high school-level) clubs, fostering leadership and community service among young people. These clubs operate at Hampden-Sydney College and Fuqua School, respectively.
• Community Events: Organizes events such as blood drives and fishing tournaments, with proceeds supporting local charities and non-profit organizations throughout central Virginia.

• Membership is open to business and professional leaders, requiring sponsorship by a current member and board approval.
• The club meets weekly for lunch and also offers a Satellite "Happy Hour Club" for those unable to attend daytime meetings, increasing accessibility for early-career professionals.

• While the club’s primary focus is Farmville and Prince Edward County, its grants and charitable activities may have a broader regional impact, supporting projects that benefit central Virginia, including areas accessible to Louisa County residents.
• Grant applicants must be not-for-profit organizations serving the local or regional community.
