Mission:
STEPS Head Start & Childcare is dedicated to providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood education for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. The organization aims to foster exploration, encourage play, and create nurturing learning environments that prepare children and families for school readiness.

Program Options:

• Head Start: Serves children from Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, and Prince Edward counties.
• Early Head Start: Supports pregnant women and their families, infants, and toddlers in Amelia, Charlotte, Lunenburg, and Prince Edward counties.
• Mixed Delivery: Offers slots in Prince Edward County.
• Subsidized Childcare: Available in Prince Edward and Charlotte counties.
• Private Pay Childcare: Provided in Farmville, VA, with weekly rates for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Services Provided:

• Early childhood education programs for children from birth to age five
• Holistic 2Gen approach to strengthen family and child skills
• Food service with menus for Head Start, childcare, and infants
• Enrollment assistance to determine eligibility for various programs
• Support for pregnant women and their families
• Volunteer and community engagement opportunities

Eligibility & Enrollment:

• Eligibility varies by program and county of residence
• Some programs are no or low cost, while private pay options are available
• One application is used for all programs, and staff assist families in determining qualifying options
