Overview:

The 2414 Hull Street RVA Community Fridge is a mutual aid initiative providing free access to food for anyone in need, including residents of Louisa County and surrounding regions. This community fridge and pantry location operates on a take-what-you-need, give-what-you-can basis, aiming to reduce food insecurity and food waste.

Services Provided:

• Community Fridge:
• Offers fresh produce, pantry items, and general refrigerated goods.
• Accepts prepared meals that are properly labeled with all ingredients, date of packaging, expiration, and potential allergens.
• Community Pantry:
• Provides shelf-stable pantry items and homemade non-perishable foods.
• Ensures all donations are labeled with ingredients, packaging/expiration dates, and allergens.

Donation Guidelines:

• All donations must be clearly labeled with ingredients, date of packaging/expiration, and any potential allergens (including dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat/gluten, soy, tree nuts).
• Homemade meals for the fridge must be labeled with the date cooked/packaged and are expected to expire within 3-4 days.
• Only homemade non-perishables/dry foods are accepted in the pantry.
• Items not fitting in the fridge or pantry should not be left outside to avoid waste.

Prohibited Items:

• Raw meat or raw fish
• Alcohol
• Unlabeled prepared meals
• Expired or moldy foods
• Opened packages or partially eaten food
• Items needing refrigeration should not be left in the pantry

Mission:

The mission of the RVA Community Fridge network is to provide accessible, stigma-free food support to anyone in need, foster community solidarity, and reduce food waste. The 2414 Hull Street location is one of several fridges in the Richmond area, all open to the public and maintained by volunteers.
