Emergency Food Bank

Mission:
The Emergency Food Bank is dedicated to providing food for three days of balanced meals, on the same day requested, to individuals and families in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

Services Provided:

• Emergency Food Assistance:
• Distribution of food orders designed to prepare balanced meals for at least three days, based on recommendations from a nutritionist on the board.
• Food items include canned fruits and vegetables, fresh milk and bread, cereal, canned fish, beans, soup, peanut butter, pasta, bread, and margarine.
• Baby food and formula, as well as special foods required for medical reasons, are available upon request.
• Special orders with ready-to-eat foods and eating utensils are available for individuals living on the street or in temporary quarters without kitchen access.

Eligibility and Access:

• Who Can Receive Assistance:
• Any Charlottesville or Albemarle County resident in need of food.
• Individuals may contact the Emergency Food Bank directly or be referred by a local social service agency or church.

Distribution Process:

• Requests for food are taken by volunteers Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until noon.
• Food is transported from the storeroom to a distribution site for pick up.
• Distribution occurs Monday through Friday between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
