About This Service

Mission: Laundry Love partners with groups, schools, and local laundromats to wash the clothes and bedding of low-income and/or no-income families and individuals, fostering community, dignity, and human worth.

Services:

  • Free laundry services for low-income families and individuals
  • Building community and fostering relationships within laundromats
  • Promoting inclusivity and welcoming environments where strangers become friends
  • Supporting marginalized populations through human care and connection

Program Details:

Laundry Love operates by collaborating with laundromat owners to host regular events, typically once a month, during regular business hours. The movement emphasizes living lives of presence and relational engagement, not just providing a service but creating a space for meaningful interactions. The organization encourages choosing laundromats that are accessible, well-lit, and near low-income housing, shelters, motels, or transit stops to maximize outreach.

Implementation:

  • Approach laundromat owners/managers directly, explaining the mission and benefits.
  • Host events with a team of 3-5 volunteers, providing free Earth Breeze detergent.
  • Set up check-in stations, manage laundry loads, and facilitate conversations.
  • Use non-objectifying language, referring to people as "low to no income families and persons."
  • Track load counts and people served after each session.
  • Ensure the effort does not interfere with regular laundromat operations.
  • Follow branding and intellectual property guidelines, including permission for collateral use.
  • Promote the movement through local media, social media, and community outreach.

Goals and Philosophy:

Laundry Love seeks to build trust, hospitality, and community through consistent presence and relational engagement. It views laundromats as third spaces where diverse people from different backgrounds meet, share stories, and find hope. The movement is rooted in the belief that everyone’s worth is acknowledged and celebrated, and that simple acts of service can lead to mutual life change.

Organizational Structure:

The national team includes Greg Russinger (Co-Founder & Board President) and Camilla Storlie (Director of Operations). The organization is supported by a board of directors with members experienced in community service, non-profit work, and business leadership. Laundry Love emphasizes collaboration, relational connection, and community participation.

Additional Notes:

Laundry Love is a movement that emphasizes relational presence, community building, and dignity. It encourages local groups to start their own efforts, providing resources, collateral, and support to expand the reach of this community-centered initiative.
