Mission and Approach:
MindOut was established in 1998 through community efforts and funding from Comic Relief, initially as part of Brighton and Hove LGBT Switchboard. It became an independent charity in 2011, staffed entirely by LGBTQ+ workers and volunteers, many with lived experience of mental health challenges. The organization aims to improve mental health outcomes by providing accessible, inclusive, and affirming services tailored to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.
Programs and Outreach:
The organization offers community peer support groups in East Sussex and West Sussex, online resources, advocacy, and training programs. It also hosts fundraising events such as the Brighton Half Marathon 2025 and participates in campaigns like the Spring Fundraiser.
Additional Information:
MindOut is governed by a board of trustees composed of LGBTQ+ individuals, including current and former service users, with expertise in governance, HR, and community services. The organization emphasizes lived experience and inclusivity in all aspects of its work.
Contact and Engagement:
For support, referrals, or to contact the trustees, individuals can email or call the organization, or use online chat services. Urgent help should be sought through NHS services or emergency numbers.
