Library of Congress - Education (Teachers Program)

Mission:
The Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Partner Program, operated by the Library of Congress, aims to build a nationwide network of organizations that deliver educational programming and create teaching materials and tools based on the Library’s digitized primary sources and other online resources.

Program Overview

• Since 2006, the TPS program has awarded grants to a wide variety of organizations, including K-12 schools, universities, literacy organizations, historical societies, museums, libraries, and other community, civic, professional, state, regional, and national groups.
• The program supports the development of innovative strategies, tools, and materials for meaningful teaching and learning using Library of Congress materials.
• Each year, the TPS Consortium—a network of partner organizations—supports tens of thousands of learners in building knowledge, engagement, and critical thinking skills with items from the Library’s collections.

Services and Opportunities

• TPS Grants: Grants ranging from $35,000 to $100,000 are periodically available to educational organizations in the United States and its territories to implement TPS projects.
• Regional TPS Grants: Six regional partners administer sub-grants of up to $25,000 for organizations wishing to incorporate TPS methods and materials into their educational programming. These partners cover the East, Mid-Atlantic and US Territories, South, Midwest, Great Plains, and West regions.
• Consortium Membership: All TPS grant recipients become members of the TPS Consortium, gaining access to valuable information, collaborations, and expanded professional networks.

Who They Serve

• The program is open to a broad range of educational organizations, including those serving K-12 students, university students, literacy learners, home-schooling communities, and other targeted populations of learners.
• Organizations in Louisa County, VA, and surrounding regions are eligible to apply for grants and participate in TPS programming.

• Applicants must be educational organizations or groups that seek to expand the use of Library of Congress primary sources in teaching and learning.
• Eligibility extends to organizations across the United States and its territories, including those in Louisa County and neighboring areas.
