Mission:
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all educational levels. NCTE serves as a professional home for literacy educators, supporting teachers and their students in classrooms, on college campuses, and in online learning environments. With a history spanning over 100 years, NCTE collaborates with its members to provide journals, publications, and resources, and to advocate for educators and students at local and federal levels. The organization also facilitates the sharing of lesson ideas, research, and teaching strategies through its Annual Convention and other professional learning events.

Who They Serve
NCTE serves pre-K through graduate school literacy educators, their students, and the broader educational community. Governance
NCTE is governed by an Executive Committee responsible for long-term planning, policy-making, and administrative oversight. The committee is composed of elected members, including a presidential team and representatives from various educational sectors.
