National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)

Mission:
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all educational levels. The organization promotes the development of literacy and the use of language to construct personal and public worlds, aiming for full participation in society through English and related arts and sciences.

NCTE serves as a professional home for literacy educators, supporting teachers and their students in classrooms, on college campuses, and in online learning environments. With a history spanning over 100 years, NCTE collaborates with its members to provide journals, publications, and resources, and to advocate for educators and students at local and federal levels. The organization also facilitates the sharing of lesson ideas, research, and teaching strategies through its Annual Convention and other professional learning events.

Who They Serve

Governance
