Girls Who Code

Mission:
Girls Who Code is dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology by inspiring, educating, and equipping girls, women, and nonbinary individuals with the computing skills necessary to pursue 21st-century opportunities.

Who They Serve:

• Girls, women, and nonbinary individuals from grades 3 through college and early career (ages 18-25)
• Over 670,000 participants globally, with more than half from historically underrepresented groups
• Programs are accessible to students across the United States, including those in Louisa County, VA, through virtual and local club offerings

Core Programs:

• Clubs Program:
• For grades 3-5 and 6-12, offered in partnership with schools, libraries, and afterschool programs
• Focuses on foundational coding concepts, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving
• Free curriculum, meeting guides, tutorials, and facilitator support
• Clubs can be run offline or with optional online components
• Summer Immersion Program:
• Two-week live virtual classroom experience for current 9th-11th graders
• Focuses on game design, coding, and career exploration with industry leaders
• Includes needs-based grants for eligible U.S. students
• Pathways Program:
• Six-week self-paced exploration of advanced tech topics such as AI, cybersecurity, and data science
• Open to current 9th-12th graders, including alumni and graduating seniors
• College & Career Programs:
• For ages 18-25, providing leadership development, professional networking, and support for persistence in tech fields
• Educator Training:
• Summer teaching team opportunities with innovative training and robust support resources
• Free Activities:
• Downloadable computer science activities for all ages, featuring women in tech and varying in difficulty

Impact & Outcomes:

• Alumni major in computer science or related fields at a rate seven times the U.S. average
• Clubs and programs are available internationally, with a strong presence in the U.S.
• Programs are designed to foster a supportive sisterhood, build technical and leadership skills, and connect participants with professional networks

Eligibility & Access:

• Programs are open to students regardless of geographic location, with virtual and downloadable resources ensuring accessibility for Louisa County residents
• Needs-based grants available for certain programs
• No prior coding experience required for most entry-level programs

Partnerships:

• Collaborates with school districts, library networks, afterschool programs, and industry partners to expand reach and impact
