The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a national voluntary health organization established in 1987. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including individuals who have experienced a loss. The organization empowers a nationwide community through research, education, advocacy, and support.

- L.E.T.S. Save Lives: Focused on suicide prevention for Black and African American communities, aiming to reduce stigma and foster mental health conversations.
- Soul Shop: Workshops for faith communities to address the impact of suicide and train participants in prevention strategies.
- More Than Sad: Educational program teaching students and educators about mental health.
- Mental Health First Aid: Trainings that equip participants with a five-step action plan to help someone experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Interactive Screening Program: Connects individuals to mental health services before crises emerge.
- Signs Matter: Early Detection: Training for recognizing early signs of suicide risk in students.
- SafeSide Prevention: Video-based training for organizations aspiring to Zero Suicide.

Diversity & Inclusion

AFSP is committed to improving access to culturally informed, evidence-based mental health care and actively works to address systemic racism within the mental health field.

Service Area and Accessibility

AFSP operates local chapters in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico, making its programs and resources accessible to Louisa County residents and surrounding regions. Programs are available to anyone affected by suicide, including those at risk, survivors, and their loved ones.
