Blue Ridge Health District

Mission:
The Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD), part of the Virginia Department of Health, is dedicated to protecting and promoting public health for residents of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties.

Comprehensive Public Health Services:

BRHD offers a wide array of health services and programs, including:

• Communicable Disease Control:
• Information and resources on COVID-19, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases.
• Emergency Preparedness & Medical Reserve Corps:
• Community preparedness education, emergency notification systems, and volunteer opportunities for disaster response.
• Environmental Health:
• Oversight of well and septic systems, restaurant inspections, and management of vital records (birth, marriage, divorce, and death certificates).
• Family Planning & Sexual Health:
• Access to reproductive health services, sexual health education, and screenings.
• Harm Reduction:
• Programs aimed at reducing the negative consequences of substance use.
• Immunizations:
• Routine and back-to-school immunizations for children and adults.
• Maternal & Child Health:
• Support for mothers and children, including WIC (Women, Infants, & Children) nutrition and supplemental food program.
• Long Term Care Pre-Admission Screenings:
• Assessments for individuals seeking long-term care services.
• Tobacco and Nicotine Cessation:
• Resources and support for quitting tobacco and nicotine products.
• Community Engagement:
• Community health workers, outreach networks, and school/sports physicals for children.
• MAPP2Health Initiatives:
• Community health assessments and improvement plans focusing on transportation, healthcare workforce, digital access, and mental/behavioral health.

Eligibility & Service Area:

• Services are available to residents of Louisa County and the broader Blue Ridge Health District region, including Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, and Nelson counties.
