Overview

The Goochland Department of Social Services administers a wide range of programs designed to support individuals and families in need. Services are available to residents of Goochland County and may be accessible to residents of neighboring counties, including Louisa County, depending on program eligibility and regional partnerships.

  • Protective Services:
  • Child Protective Services (CPS) and Adult Protective Services (APS) for the safety and well-being of vulnerable children, elderly, and disabled adults.
  • Financial Assistance Programs:
  • Administration of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid/FAMIS, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Energy Assistance Programs.

  • Recruitment and support for foster parents, placement of children in foster care, and assistance with adoption processes.
  • Employment and Training:
  • Assistance with employment training and job readiness for eligible individuals and families.
  • Utility, Food, and Housing Assistance:
  • Support for electric, food, utilities, mortgage, and rent payments for qualifying households.
  • Child and Family Services:
  • Administration of the Children’s Services Act (CSA), providing funding for child-centered, family-focused services, including special education placements, foster care, and services for children in need.
  • Information and Referral:
  • Connecting individuals and families to additional community resources and programs.

Additional Programs

  • Meals on Wheels:
  • Application support for home-delivered meals to eligible seniors and disabled adults.
  • Summer Camp and After Care Assistance:
  • Financial assistance for children to attend summer camps and after-school care.
  • Energy Assistance:
  • Participation in Dominion Energy’s Energy Assistance and Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP).
