About This Service

Mission:
Micah Ecumenical Ministries is a collaborative network of churches and community partners dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty in the Fredericksburg region, including those from Louisa County and surrounding areas.

Core Services and Programs

1. Hospitality Center (The Day Center):
* Provides a basic needs hub for people sleeping on the street.
* Offers bagged lunches, showers, mail services, clothing, and connections to community resources.
* Hosts co-located service providers to increase access to support.
* Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am to 2pm (Thursday by appointment).
* Volunteers assist guests with troubleshooting issues beyond basic survival, focusing on building relationships and connecting individuals to needed resources.

2. Respite House (Residential Recovery Program):
* Serves adults experiencing homelessness who are sick enough to need family, hospice, or home health care but well enough to be discharged from the hospital if they had stable housing.
* Aims to reduce recurring emergency room and hospital visits due to illnesses complicated by homelessness.
* Provides a safe, community-based alternative to costly inpatient care for up to eight guests at a time.
* Offers a nurturing environment for physical and mental recovery, case-managed support, medication management, homemade meals, transportation to appointments, and coordination of recovery needs.
* Admission requires a referral from a medical or mental health professional.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Adults experiencing homelessness in the local area (including Louisa County residents).
  • Must have a referral from a medical facility or professional.
  • Uninsured or underinsured status.
  • Presence or suspicion of a mental disorder, level of disability, and illness.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in the program.

Additional Ministries

  • Cold Weather Shelter for winter months.
  • Hesed House and Housing programs for longer-term stabilization.
  • Street Church for spiritual community and belonging.
  • Community meals hosted by partner churches.
