About This Service
Mission: Health Brigade, formerly known as FAN FREE CLINIC, is Virginia’s oldest free and charitable clinic, dedicated to providing exceptional health services to those least served in a caring and non-judgmental environment. The organization is committed to serving marginalized populations, including low-income, uninsured individuals, Medicaid recipients, and those most oppressed and stigmatized in the community.
Service Areas
- Health Brigade serves a wide region in Virginia, including Louisa County and numerous surrounding counties and cities. Residency in one of these service areas for at least 6 months is required for most services.
Core Services
- Primary Care: Comprehensive medical care for eligible clients.
- Mental Health & Wellness: Mental health services for those qualifying under income and residency guidelines.
- HIV/STI Testing Services: Free HIV, Hepatitis C, gonorrhea, and chlamydia testing is available to anyone, regardless of eligibility for other services. Testing is by appointment.
- Needle Exchange: Harm reduction services for individuals who use injection drugs.
- Ryan White Services: Support and care coordination for people living with HIV.
- Trans Health: Specialized services for transgender individuals.
- Community Outreach & Care Coordination: Assistance with accessing medications, labs, imaging, and specialty care.
- PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis): Available to anyone interested, with screening to determine medication cost.
Eligibility Requirements
- No medical insurance (including employer, Medicare Parts B, C, & D, or Veterans Benefits), or not eligible for these programs. Medicaid is accepted.
- Residency in a listed service area (including Louisa County) for at least 6 months.
- Income between 139-200% of the Federal Poverty Line.
- All new and current clients must complete a registration appointment and renew annually.
- HIV, Hep C, and STI testing, as well as PrEP, are available to all regardless of insurance or income status.
Registration Process
- Registration appointments are required and include eligibility screening and paperwork completion. Clients must bring a photo ID and two months of income documentation. The process helps determine eligibility and connects clients to additional support services.

Hours of Operation
Registration appointments: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM; Tuesday–Thursday, 1:00 PM–4:00 PM. Registration is by appointment only.
