About This Service
Mission: Guiding the growth and development of Powhatan County through comprehensive planning and community engagement.
Responsibilities & Services:
- Preparation and amendment of the Comprehensive Plan for Powhatan County, ensuring alignment with community goals and future needs.
- Advising the Board of Supervisors on rezoning requests, conditional use permits, and proposed amendments to zoning and subdivision ordinances.
- Providing recommendations on a variety of planning topics, including land use, infrastructure, and community development.
- Developing and presenting the annual Capital Improvement Program to the Board of Supervisors.
- Submitting annual reports on planning activities and progress.
The Planning Commission is composed of members with expertise in community growth and development, representing different districts within the county. Regular meetings are open to the public, providing opportunities for community input on planning and zoning matters. Residents of Powhatan and neighboring counties, including Louisa County, may benefit from the Commission's work in shaping regional development and public policy.
Hours of Operation
Regular meetings: 6:00 p.m., 1st Tuesday of every month
