About This Service
Mission: WHEAT assists neighbors in need in Western Hanover County by providing emotional, spiritual, and physical support so that all can thrive, succeed, and love others.
Services:
- Food Pantry: Provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families in need. The pantry is open on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 5:00-7:00pm. Each household may receive food once per month, with quantities based on family size.
- Personal Care Bags: Distributes hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, washcloths, band-aids, combs/brushes, deodorant, and shaving cream when available.
- Community Support: WHEAT is a coalition of approximately 15 local churches working together to serve over 200 families annually, offering both practical and spiritual support to those in crisis.
Eligibility: Services are available to residents of the following zip codes: 23015 (Beaverdam), 23047 (Doswell), 23192 (Montpelier), and 23146 (Rockville). While the primary service area is Western Hanover, residents from neighboring counties, including Louisa County, may be eligible if they reside within these zip codes.
Vision: To help neighbors in crisis by providing emergency assistance in a caring, inclusive, and respectful manner.
