About This Service
Mission: Guiding the growth and development of Powhatan County through comprehensive planning and community engagement.
Responsibilities & Services:
- Preparation and amendment of the Comprehensive Plan to guide long-term growth and land use.
- Advising the Board of Supervisors on rezoning requests, conditional use permits, and amendments to zoning and subdivision ordinances.
- Reviewing and recommending the annual Capital Improvement Program to ensure infrastructure and community needs are met.
- Providing input on community development topics to support orderly and sustainable growth.
- Conducting public hearings and engaging with residents on planning matters.
The Planning Commission is composed of members qualified by knowledge and experience in community growth and development. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to participate in shaping the county's future. While based in Powhatan County, the commission's planning and zoning decisions can impact regional development and may be relevant to residents of neighboring counties, including Louisa County.
Hours of Operation
Regular meetings: 6:00 p.m., 1st Tuesday of every month
