Safe Space NOVA

Mission:

Safe Space NOVA is dedicated to providing a safe, accepting, and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ youth, aiming to combat social stigmas, bullying, and other challenges faced by this community. The organization focuses on ensuring the well-being and inclusion of LGBTQ+ young people by creating spaces where they feel valued, respected, and empowered to express their identities authentically.

Services:

• "You + Me = We" Queer Sex Ed & Healthy Relationships Program: Inclusive sexual health education tailored for LGBTQ+ youth, covering topics such as body autonomy, consent, safer sex practices, communication, and boundary-setting. Delivered in a hybrid virtual and in-person format.
• Sunday Socials: Weekly adult-facilitated group hangouts for LGBTQIA+ teens from across the DMV region, providing a safe space to discuss school, coming out, relationships, and other relevant topics. These sessions offer community, support, and protection against social stigmas and bullying.
• Social Activities: Supervised events for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 14-18, including activities like laser tag, board game nights, movie nights, picnics, and formal dances, all designed to foster friendships and community.
• Professional Training for Adult Allies: Development and training for service providers and adult allies to better support LGBTQ+ youth.

Safe Space NOVA works holistically and intersectionally, collaborating with families, schools, communities, and policymakers to promote inclusivity and acceptance. The organization serves youth throughout Northern Virginia, including those in Louisa County and surrounding areas.
