Side by Side

Mission:

Side by Side is dedicated to creating supportive communities where Virginia’s LGBTQ+ youth can define themselves, belong, and flourish. The organization serves LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, including those in Louisa County and throughout central Virginia.

Services:

• Support Groups: Regular support groups for LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-20, including specialized groups for middle schoolers, trans youth, and youth of color.
• Homelessness Services: Programs for LGBTQ+ young adults ages 18-25 experiencing homelessness or housing instability, including a Host Home program and partnerships for transitional housing.
• Family & Caregiver Support: Resources, programs, and support for parents, caregivers, and family members of LGBTQ+ youth and young adults.
• Education & Training: Trainings and consultations for K-12 schools, community organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners to foster inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ individuals.
• Youth Leadership: Opportunities for youth leadership and engagement through councils and events.

Side by Side is committed to intersectionality, with a focus on supporting Black LGBTQ+ youth and fostering healthy, inclusive communities. The organization also provides educational resources and advocacy to empower youth and those who support them.
