About This Service
Mission: To provide training, certification, and resources for Professional Peer Supporters (PSPs) in Virginia, primarily serving emergency service professionals.
Services:
- Training and certification of Peer Support Professionals (PSPs) at various levels
- Continuing education for PSPs
- Development of model policies for peer support teams
- Supervision by a Police and Emergency Services Psychologist
- Connecting peer support communities for mutual support and guidance
VAPSA has trained over 500 emergency service professionals since its inception in 2006. It offers discipline-specific courses for law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel, along with specialized 'Agency Champion' courses. The organization also provides resources to help build and sustain peer support teams within agencies. VAPSA is committed to enhancing emotional wellness and resilience among first responders through education, support, and policy development.
Note: VAPSA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Virginia, serving residents of Louisa County and surrounding areas, with services accessible to emergency responders and agencies in the region.
