About This Service

Mission: To ensure that students experiencing homelessness in Virginia receive the support they need to stay in school.

Services:

  • School enrollment assistance for students experiencing homelessness
  • Transportation support
  • Access to free school meals
  • Training tools and resources for educators and community partners
  • Support for families, caregivers, and students
  • Connecting liaisons, families, educators, and community organizations to essential resources

Project HOPE-Virginia is administered by William & Mary for the Virginia Department of Education under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The program focuses on educational stability for children and youth living in temporary or unstable housing situations, including staying with family or friends, motels, shelters, or living in vehicles. They provide guidance, resources, and training to help schools and communities support these students and ensure their right to education. Contact your local McKinney-Vento liaison for assistance.
