About This Service
Mission: The Brisben Center is the greater Fredericksburg region’s largest full-service, year-round, residential emergency homeless center, dedicated to providing safe shelter and effective services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Who They Serve
- Homeless individuals and families, including women, men, children, and veterans
- Residents from Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties, including Louisa County and the broader region
Services Provided
- Emergency Shelter: 24/7, 365 days a year, with capacity for up to 80 people (including family units)
- Meals: Three nutritious meals daily, snacks for children, bag lunches for working residents, and dinners for the wider community
- Basic Needs: Showers, laundry, hygiene products, clothes pantry, and handicap-accessible facilities
- Support Services:
- Required case management focused on housing
- One-on-one Mobility Mentoring® for up to a year
- Benefits eligibility assistance (including veterans’ benefits)
- Mental health assessments and medical referrals
- Job coaching, resume writing, and life skills classes
- Children’s activities, exercise programs, and nutritional education
- Additional Amenities: Career center, community health room, meditation room, children’s activity room, playgrounds, outdoor recreation, basketball court, free use of bicycles, and transportation to appointments (as available)
The Brisben Center is supported by over 1,200 volunteers annually and collaborates with more than 200 community and faith-based organizations. They welcome residents from Louisa County and the surrounding region.
