About This Service

Mission: PACEM is a grassroots organization dedicated to providing emergency shelter and compassionate support to individuals experiencing homelessness in the greater Charlottesville region, including Louisa County residents.

What PACEM Does:

  • Emergency Shelter: Coordinates space and volunteers from over 80 faith congregations and community groups to provide low-barrier, seasonal shelter for adults in need.
  • Case Management: Offers individualized support to help guests secure personal documentation, access healthcare, improve income, and navigate the housing market.
  • Specialized Services: Provides tailored assistance for seniors, women, and individuals at high risk (including those affected by COVID-19).
  • Community Partnerships: Collaborates with secular organizations, healthcare providers, and local agencies to address the complex needs of guests.

PACEM believes that a welcoming, safe place to shelter is the first step to addressing homelessness. Their model emphasizes dignity, equity, and relationship-building, serving over 1,700 neighbors since 2004. Louisa County residents are eligible for services, and PACEM’s network ensures broad regional access.
