Center for American English Language and Culture (CAELC) at the University of Virginia

Mission: The Center for American English Language and Culture (CAELC) at UVA is dedicated to supporting non-native English speakers through high-quality English language instruction and cultural programming.

Services:

• English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes: Offers a variety of ESL courses for undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, and community members, including summer intensive programs and specialized academic English training.
• TESOL Certificate Program: Provides training and certification for those interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
• Language Assessment: Conducts English proficiency assessments for academic and professional purposes.
• Translation Services: Through the MOVE volunteer program, CAELC offers translation support for community services, non-profits, and university organizations. Requests can be made by UVA affiliates and local community members, including those from Louisa County.
• Cultural Programming: Engages participants in activities that foster cross-cultural understanding and integration.
