Mission: The Virginia Film Festival (VAFF), a program of the University of Virginia, is dedicated to educating and engaging diverse audiences through the art of film.
About the Festival
- Annual Event: The VAFF is one of the leading regional film festivals in America, presenting over 100 films from around the world during a five-day annual festival in Charlottesville, VA.
- Year-Round Engagement: In addition to the main festival, VAFF offers year-round screenings, panels, and special events that foster dialogue on important social, cultural, and artistic issues.
- Community Impact: The festival is committed to inclusivity, welcoming audiences of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities, and providing a platform for underrepresented voices through themed series such as LGBTQIA+, Black Excellence, Indigenous Cinema, and more.
- Educational Focus: VAFF partners with academic and cultural experts, including those from the University of Virginia, to lead post-film discussions and panels, enriching the audience experience and promoting critical thinking.
- Support for Virginia Filmmakers: The festival collaborates with the Virginia Film Office to highlight and support films and filmmakers from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
