HughesNet provides high-speed internet service delivered via satellite technology. This makes it widely available across the United States, including in the Roanoke area, especially in rural locations where terrestrial options like cable, fiber, or DSL may not reach. HughesNet offers various plans with speeds up to 100 Mbps (on select plans) and includes a set amount of "Priority Data" per month. After using the Priority Data, customers can continue using the internet with "Unlimited Standard Data," though speeds may be slower during peak times. Satellite internet can sometimes experience higher latency (delay) compared to ground-based services, which might affect real-time online gaming or video conferencing. Professional installation of a satellite dish and modem is required. They may also offer home phone (VoIP) services.
